I just offered to give a cooking lesson to a neighbor: creme brulee. And I thought I was done volunteering for a while! I love the story of how Anne Byrn, author of “The Cake Mix Doctor” and many other such cookbooks, got her start doctoring cake mixes to give them a homemade taste without all the time of baking from scratch. I can remember reading an article about her in the Food section of the “Washington Post” […] Next up: Catering by Laura. No one else volunteered to bring snacks for Grandparent’s Day at school. How sad for the kids! I’ll do it! I need to troubleshoot my own baking problem and blog about it, but I’m so busy volunteering this week I don’t have time!! Taking my mom out to dinner for Mother’s Day….since she always treats me every other time we visit! http://tinyurl.com/3epknj "Nobody makes cookies like Grandma!" Is a refrain from a favorite kids’ book: "The Doorbell Rang." It’s true: I learned to bake from my mom! Brought my family to my mom’s house for Mother’s Day. She made chocolate chunk, white chocolate & pecan cookies–delicious! Today is a rainy, dreary day–the type where I crave my comfort food: Hard Times chili from D.C. Love the vegetarian Cinncinati style! Made a really tasty dinner: Lemon-Parmesan risotto with salmon & spinach, and roasted sweet potatoes & apples in orange-cinnamon glaze. mmm |

First, I made cupcakes as a way of saying “thank you” to all the families who helped me throughout the school year volunteering with […]
