I visited a fabulous local pastry shop: http://www.pistaciavera.com/. The Pastry Chef, Spencer Budros, gave me a kitchen tour. . . Nice! At a Chicago diner having a $5 shake. Thought that was supposed to be milk & ice cream, but there’s ICE in it-yuk. Picked 20 lbs. of the most delicious strawberries yesterday, then made my mom’s recipe for strawberry shortcake. I LOVE Summer rituals! Happy Father’s Day to all the twitter dads out there! My husband makes the BEST buttermilk pancakes. But for Father’s Day, my kids & I did the cooking FOR him–hooray! I bartered with my optometrist neighbor: she gave me a Rx for pink eye, & I’m making chocolate torte for a Father’s Day gift. I got a plate of cookies from the neighbor who borrowed an egg to make them. Nobody EVER makes desserts for the Pastry Chef. I love it!! Tomorrow I volunteer to help with a bread baking class at Omega Artisan Bakery. I miss teaching AND baking professionally. Tonight for dessert I had homemade vanilla ice cream–that I made with my 5-year-old son–topped with Georgia peaches. Delicious! |
